Rectors of Astrakhan universities took part in the Second Russian-Uzbek Educational Forum

Heads of ministries and departments of Russia and Uzbekistan, more than 100 rectors and representatives of leading universities of the two countries took part in the Second Russian-Uzbek Educational Forum. The event was held at the Lomonosov Moscow State University on the eve of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Russian Federation. Astrakhan Region was represented at the forum by rectors of Astrakhan State University(hereafter ASU),Astrakhan State Technical University (hereafter ASTU), and Astrakhan State Medical University (hereafter ASMU).

On the sidelines of the forum, Rector of ASU Konstantin Markelov moderated the session «Key areas of Russian-Uzbek cooperation in the field of personnel training: actual tasks and ways to solve them». In his speech, he noted the close ties of ASU with the Republic of Uzbekistan. Nowadays, agreements have been signed and are being implemented with nine universities of this Central Asian state.

ASTU became the first Astrakhan University to open its branch abroad, in Uzbekistan. The Rector Alexander Nevalenny told about the experience of functioning of a foreign branch. «We are training specialists in the whole range of fisheries disciplines», he said – «This academic year the number of students in our branch in Tashkent has reached 1,000 people. We plan to expand the range of training areas, license master's degree courses, and most importantly, start preparing for the accreditation of all our educational programs».

The cooperation of ASTU with Uzbekistan is not limited only to the activities of the Tashkent branch. ASTU is actively working with Urgench State University and Tashkent State Agrarian University on a two-degree program.
