Festival of India “Friendship-Dosti” in Astrakhan

For many years, Russia and India have maintained truly friendly and warm relations. Russia is one of the main political, strategic and economic partners of the Republic of India. However, not only business partnership binds our countries, but also something more - the mutual interest of the two peoples to the culture and traditions of each other, which is the basis of time-tested unbreakable friendship.
The Republic of India in Russia hosts many different events in the field of culture and historical traditions, which are in constant demand and are of great interest.  It was in 1987 that the First festival of India in Russia was held. After 30 years, the Festival is held again to become a good tradition.
The festival lasting from September 6, 2018 till March 30, 2019 will embrace 22 cities across the length and breadth of Russia including Astrakhan region.
But in our region the Festival will be really large-scale and combine several events announced as “The Days of Indian culture”, which will be held in Astrakhan for the fifth time. The Program of the event will include the already traditional workshops on Indian music and dance as well as the Indian films. The main event of the festival - a concert of the Gita Upasana Odissi dance group “Gita Upasana” will be held on March 3, 2019 at 19.00 at the Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The event is organized by the Cultural center of Jawaharlal Nehru at the Embassy of India in Moscow with the support of the Government of Astrakhan region.
