Astrakhan students undergo practical training in a German company

In the middle of autumn, students of the Institute of Marine Technologies, Energy and Transport of Astrakhan State Technical University will complete navigation practice with German “Briese Shipping” ship-owning company.

The competition for such practice this time was four people per place. The commission selected 14 best students of the specialty "Operation of Ship Power Plants". The students passed trial tests for the knowledge of the English technical language (impeccable knowledge is one of the main conditions for concluding contracts with international shipowners), prepared employment questionnaires in English and sent the documents to the company's head office. The interview was held online.

Before leaving for the company's ships, the future interns passed a PCR test for coronavirus. Currently, our nationals work on large dry cargo ships in the positions of a motorist and a machine trainee. Their mentors are experienced ship crew members. Students receive a decent salary for their work. In addition, all expenses for flights, accommodation and uniforms are at the expense of the company. For six months of practice, young Astrakhan sailors will have the opportunity not only to comprehend the wisdom of the profession, but also to visit ports in different countries, such as China, Japan, Singapore, Belgium, Poland, France, Brazil and others.

"Navigation practice with a well-known German shipping company is necessary for our students to confirm their theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills, which contributes to improving the skills of novice specialists and allows them to gain the necessary experience, "says Mikhail Pokusaev, Head of the Department of Water Transport Operations at ASTU, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor. "Before leaving for their homeland, students will receive certificates of work experience on the ship, which give graduates of our institute the green light for employment."

Head of the Agency for International Relations of Astrakhan region, Vladimir Golovkov, considers the invitation of Astrakhan students to practical training in leading European companies as evidence of the high level of training of specialists at ASTU.

"Supporting talented students is one of the main tasks both at the level of the Russian Federation and the Astrakhan region. And this is facilitated by the development of international cooperation of Astrakhan universities with educational organizations and companies from different countries, " he said.
